Gas Fire Suppression Systems

Gas suppression systems are an effective way to prevent damage and loss caused by fire. We source, install and maintain fire suppression systems with a variety of applications in business premises across the UK.

Fire Suppression Supply, Installation and Maintenance

Water is not the only solution to fighting fires. Gas fire suppression systems limit damage and prevent losses caused by fire. In fact, the majority of small fires can be fully extinguished using gas suppression.

Suppression systems extinguish fires by restricting the oxygen content in the area where the fire is to below 15% – a point at which most materials will not burn. When smoke is detected, the gas suppression system activates and automatically expels inert gases into the space. This limits the spread of the fire and prevents damage to valuable plant, machinery and equipment.

Like water-based sprinkler systems, gas suppression is a very effective form of fire defence and management. We commonly fit fire suppression to business critical or vulnerable areas of a building. This includes plant rooms, server rooms, areas where specialist machinery or equipment is kept, and in kitchens to preserve the safety of appliances.

Fire suppression systems are used to extinguish, control, or in some cases, entirely prevent fires from spreading or occurring anywhere where specialist equipment or appliances are used.

We are accredited to BAFE SP203-1 for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of fire detection and fire alarm systems, including fire suppression and management. Our cost effective servicing and maintenance contracts cover gas supply integrity testing, smoke detector inspection and various safety checks.

Fire suppression systems have an incredibly wide variety of applications, and there are many different types of suppression systems available on the market. Please get in touch to discover which is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

There are three elements needed to start a fire: heat, fuel and oxygen. Gas fire suppression works by reducing the amount of oxygen present in a space to less than 15%. At such low oxygen levels, the fire will be suppressed, spread at a much slower rate and can even burn itself out. This limits damage to property and contents, allows occupants to escape the building and the fire service to tackle the blaze more easily.

Yes, gas suppression is highly effective at extinguishing fires before they take hold. Gas suppression is particularly effective in areas where electrical or expensive server equipment is stored.
