AOV Smoke Vent Installation & Maintenance

Intelligent smoke ventilation systems are linked to your fire alarm system and open automatically in the event of a fire. Natural air ventilation systems help to regulate temperatures in commercial premises.

Smoke ventilation systems save lives

Automatic Opening Vents (AOV) are designed to help facilitate the safe exit of people in the event of a fire. By extracting smoke and circulating fresh air, they also help the fire service to fight the fire in its early stages.

We supply, fit and service smoke and natural ventilation AOVs in commercial properties across the UK. All the AOVs we supply are certified to British Standards and can be linked to your fire alarm to create an intelligent safety system.

Smoke AOVs are often fitted in stairwells in larger properties and to windows in smaller premises. If the AOV is linked to your alarm system and the fire alarm is triggered, vents in the zone where the fire is will open automatically. AOVs remove smoke from the area to provide crucial extra minutes for people to evacuate.

Maintaining air quality can be a challenge in commercial buildings, especially in modern properties. Limited air exchange and thermal loads increased by electrical equipment and large areas of glazing all contribute to poor air quality.

Natural ventilation systems use natural pressure to circulate fresh air and maintain comfortable temperatures in work, living and learning environments. They are easy to use and manage, giving those who live or work their control over their spaces.

We design, supply, install and maintain natural ventilation systems in apartment buildings, student accommodation and many other business premises across the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions

An automatic opening vent is either an air vent or window that is wired to open automatically in the event of a fire. If smoke is detected by your fire alarm system, the vent opens to remove smoke from specific locations, such as emergency escape routes, to allow people to evacuate the building safely.

There are two ways our qualified technicians can test the efficiency and effectiveness of a smoke vent: through manual activation and by setting off controlled smoke in the area. During annual servicing we will check that the vents are opening and closing correctly, and that any vents linked to your fire alarm system are being triggered as they should.

Every AOV smoke vent should be tested and serviced by a qualified engineer at least once a year. Why not ask us about our simple, easy-to-manage fire safety equipment maintenance contracts.

Parr Fire carried out an upgrade on our Stadium fire alarm system, which was in-depth and complicated. Parr Fire carried out the work professionally and with minimal disruption. They also provided engineers, at very short notice, when we had issues with damaged fire protection equipment on site. This has proved invaluable to ensure our business and hotel can remain functioning 24/7.
